Beautiful Vintage Ceramic Basket
Yellow-Orange Luster, Black Trim
A very pretty lustreware basket with a bright yellowish-orange (golden) luster glaze around the rim and handle, fading to white luster at the bottom, with thick black trim around the zig-zag frim. This vintage piece is from the former Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic), and is shown on page 116 (item 949) in the book Czechoslovakian Pottery by Bowers, Closser, and Ellis.
This pretty basket measures 5-1/8 inches high at the top of the handle, 4.25 inches wide across the handle, and 2 inches wide across the foot. It is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips or crazing. There is a very small amount of glaze wear around the black trim.
The piece is marked in reddish-brown with the round dime mark (P1001, with the dropped "c") "Made in Czecho-Slovakia." There is also an impressed number, which I think is 16. Because of the color and shape, I would guess this piece dates to the 1920s.
