W.H. Grindley & Co. Ltd.
Windsor Ivory 6-5/8" Bowl
An amazing colorful soup or cereal bowl from W.H. Grindley & Co. Ltd. marked "Ivory" (Windsor Ivory) in a pattern called "The Patricia." This bowl has a very Art Deco pattern--bordering on Cubist design--with orange and pink flowers and black leaves with very sharp geometric edges, surrounded by a black border with red and yellow arrows.
This bowl measures 6-5/8 inches wide across the flat rim and sits 1.75 inches high; it has a faint octagonal shape, with a lightly scalloped border. It is in fair to good condition. There are two chips on the underedge of the rim (not visible from the front, see closeup photos). There is also some heavy utensil marks, but no cracks or crazing. The design is very colorful and intact.
The bowl is marked on the bottom with an underglaze stamp for "W.H. Grindley & Co. Ltd. / Ivory / England / Reg. No. 7_[blurred]_." There is also a stamped red number 79. I believe the registration number would date production to the early 1930s.
