Albert Pick & Co. Chicago
7-1/8" x 4.75" RENAISSANCE Restaurantware Oval Platter
A very ornate small tray or underplate made by Cauldon Ltd. for Albert Pick & Company of Chicago. This antique restaurant ware platter has a very intricately designed pattern of dark green garlands and torches on vitrified china. This piece of "vitrified china" was made by Cauldon Ltd. (1904-1920, later Cauldon Potteries and Royal Caldon), England, and the pattern is called "Renaissance."
The oval platter measures about 7-1/8 inches long by 4.75 inches wide at the raised rim. It is in good to very good condition -- especially for restaurant ware, with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. There is very light utensil wear on the white surface, but heavier wear to the outer rim.
The bottom is marked with two marks. There is an impressed mark for "Cauldon Vitrified." There is also a green mark for: "Renaissance / Cauldon Vitrified Ware / Manufactured by Cauldon Ltd. / England / Furnished by / Albert Pick & Company / Chicago." Albert Pick was a sales company operating out of Chicago from 1904 through the 1930s; the company used a number of potteries.
