6 inch Art Nouveau Candy Dish
2-Color Luster Glaze
Moliere Shape, ca. 1891-1906
A very pretty and elegant Art Nouveau porcelain serving dish, from Rosenthal (Bavaria). The shape is "Moliere," with an ornate embossed rim with pierced edges and a wonderful curved handle, creating a leaf or lily pad effect. The top is decorated in a golden-green luster with pink and yellow highlights; the underside and the handle are in a soft green luster, with pink and blue highlights. This little bonbon or candy dish measures about 6 inches wide across the rim; the handle is 2 inches high.
This plate is in very good to excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, or hairlines, and very little signs of use or utensil marks. The golden green and blue luster glazes are very solid on all parts, and the curvey handle is intact.
The crown mark with crossed lines (partially cut off) reads "R.C. / Moliere / Bavaria." I believe this mark dates to 1891-1906. There is also a hand-written decorator's mark for E.H.
