Small Round Plate
Burley & Company, Chicago
A delicate and very prettily decorated round plate with lightly scalloped rim, from Théodore Haviland (Limoges, France). This very pretty plate is decorated with faint blue and dark brown flowers and bright green leaves on a thick (restaurant-ware style) body.
The plate measure 8 inches wide. It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks. There is a fair amount of utensil wear and scuffing in the center of the plate. The floral designs are fairly solid, and there is no crazing or fleabites.
There is a clear green cursive mark for "Theodore Haviland / Limoges / France," along with a red arched mark for "Burley & Company / Chicago." This appears to be the underlined ("P") mark that dates to 1903. Burley was a Chicago import and retail store (in business ca. 1884-1915) and it did have a hotel and restaurant supply division.
